what's the difference?

What's the difference?

Taya is an incredibly photogenic, warm and smiley child, and that shines through in her photographs,’ says Alysia Lewis, owner of Urban Angels, the prestigious UK model agency that has signed her up.

‘We only open our books twice a year and select just a few new children each season.

‘The standard is high; the desire for places strong. Taya is one of 50 children we chose from 2,000 applicants.

Robyn is a curious, playful little girl with dark hair and giant brown eyes. She is very active, although she was born with a VSD.  She does have an umbilical hernia (many children with DS do, just weak stomach muscles).
Robyn is already 5 and has likely been transferred to a mental institution .

Two beautiful little girls.

One is celebrated and recognized for the treasure that she is.

One has been discarded and rejected .... and is every bit as valuable.

So what's the difference? Between life and death?

Please go HERE to help rescue Robyn.

what are you giving Jesus for Christmas?

We hear so much about the true meaning of Christmas during this time of year.

It's not hard to lose sight of what that is, given this from the today:

More people headed to stores and websites over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and average spending per person rose 9.1 percent as bargain-hunting shoppers scooped up discounts on everything from gadgets to hoodies, a National Retail Federation survey on Sunday showed.

The average spending for the weekend rose to $398.62 per person from $365.34 a year ago. Total spending reached an estimated $52.4 billion versus $45 billion in the year-ago period.

Did you catch that figure??

$52.4 billion dollars.

I'm not against Black Friday spending...I went with my daughter and daughters-in-law to brave the crowds at midnight on Thursday to take advantage of those phenomenal sales myself.

But I just wonder- in the midst of all the spending and gift giving- what are we giving to Jesus this Christmas?

And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me. Matthew 25:40

I know how tight things can be during this time of year. Believe me, with ten kids and a large extended family, I know how hard it can be to balance a budget. But I don't want to leave out the One who is at the center of our family's Christmas season, the One who came to give us salvation, the One whose heart is for the least of these.

If you missed it, we're holding a giveaway for the children pictured above, Robyn and Ty, on Reece's Rainbow.

Robyn is an orphan with Down syndrome who desperately needs a family. We're raising grant money for her in the hopes of attracting a family to come forward to adopt her.

Ty is an orphan who now has a family committed to adopting him. They are traveling this week to Eastern Europe to go rescue him. His family, the Kehm's, are traveling in faith- because as it stands right now they do not have enough money to complete their trip and return home. They did not have a choice in when they traveled- they were given an appointment date on Thanksgiving day, and they are traveling in faith that we can help bring them home. I have every confidence in Lily's readers to help them do so, but I need your help.

I blogged about this giveaway on Thanksgiving Day, because of the urgency of the need. I wish I could say that traffic to Lily's blog was as steady as the traffic to the malls and department stores on Black Friday, but truthfully things have been pretty slow. I've been praying my heart out all weekend that things would pick up- and I know from your emails that so many of you have been as well.

So many of you have given so liberally throughout the year to orphans on Reece's Rainbow. I know one readership can only do so I'm asking for your help in spreading the word that Ty's family needs help. We can concentrate on Robyn as well, but I really would love to tell Julie Kehm that Ty is fully funded before they get on that plane this Friday. The Kehm's Family Sponsorship paypal box is at the top of my sidebar- our goal is to get that FSP to $7,615 to cover their return airfare and in country expenses.

Will you help me spread the word?

Ordinarily we ask that readers donate first to be entered to win- but because of the need to get this giveaway publicized quickly, you can leave a comment saying you facebooked or blogged about the giveaway without donating to be entered to win as well. You can leave a separate comment for each thing you do- one for facebooking, one for blogging, one for donating to Robyn and one for donating to Ty.

If you are sharing on your blog or on facebook, please link to the Pure Love Giveaway 2 (posted below), not this post.

Thank you so much in advance.

"Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me".

Thankful for YOU

It's two days until one of my very favoritest holidays, and I have nothing done.

No carefully prepared pie crusts in my freezer, wrapped and waiting to be defrosted on Wednesday and rolled into the perfect flaky crusts. No cubes of dry bread stored in plastic baggies in my refrigerator, or diced celery and onion packed tightly in tupperware containers. No linens freshly pressed, just begging to be spread carefully across our dining room table, or carefully penned place cards sitting prettily on a counter top somewhere. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

Aside from a 25 pound turkey that is now defrosting in my fridge (bought a few days late) I have never been this ill-prepared for Thanksgiving.

I do have the best Thanksgiving post ever ready to go right now.

If I had a dollar for every time tears started to well up in my eyes while I was putting this post together- because every parent's sentiments touched my heart so deeply, and every beautiful photo that came into my inbox did the same- I would be a very rich woman.

I've said it here so many times that I probably sound like a broken record, but it's true just the same:

I am thankful for YOU.

I can't even begin to express how much your love and support has meant to me these past two years. I am so grateful for the friendships Lily's life has brought our way, and I just wish there was a way to get us all together in one place. But because we're spread out all over the planet...from Oregon all the way to Switzerland!...this was the best I could come up with.

I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I did putting it might want to grab a box of tissues or two...or seventeen. If you've never experienced the blessing of Down syndrome before this...

...prepare to be amazed.

I'm thankful for Ellie because she brings joy to people around her, because she makes me laugh, and because she gives amazing hugs.  And I'm thankful that she's smart enough to cheer for the Bears.

~ Megan at My Stubborn Little Miss

I'm going to attach a couple of pictures of our Joseph and tell you why I'm thankful, because you played such a big roll in our finding Reece's Rainbow and ultimately our boys.

I am thankful that Joseph has hung on for the 6 and 1/2 years it took our family to find him. In two days, he has changed the way Marty and I will forever look at the world around us. He's a fighter and we can't wait to bring him home and help him grow and be all that God created him to be.

Blessings to your family this Thanksgiving! We're thankful for you :)

I am grateful that I have these two gorgeous girls for my daughters even though I cannot seem to get a good photograph done with the both of them together!  LOL!  With each day that passes, God seems to have an uncanny way of showing me the beauty of these precious angels that are my girls.  Whether it be a new sign that they have learned that day or the fondness and friendship that is growing between the two of them.  I will forever be grateful that God chose me to be their mother, that even though Lucy is not "of me", He knew that before she was in her mother's womb, she would be mine, here on earth, to care for and to love.  That is the greatest honor to receive from my Heavenly Father, to be chosen to care for His "special" child.  He must see something in me that I don't, or that I am slowly beginning to see.  I am looking forward to seeing our lives unfold together and to see what else the Lord has in store for us.  I am forever grateful for my life and my life with this wonderful family he has blessed me with.

~ Christina at Schye Family

I am grateful for Tilly's hugs, smiles, laughter, perseverance, spirit and the magic she brings. My life is changed forever, my vistas are broader, my patience greater even if more tested, my heart bigger and overflowing and my eyes are now open. I can see light where before there was none, I can see magic where before there was only a stronghold of 'normal' and I count my blessings more often, so thankful that God has granted me the extra special gift of being this child's Mummy!
Although Tilly has Smith Magenis syndrome and not Down Syndrome but I really couldn't pass the opportunity to dance in the tulip fields with so many of my special and equally blessed friends.
