Dear Friends,
Have you ever looked into someone's eyes, and felt like you knew the kind of person they were?
Have you ever looked into someone's eyes and felt like you were staring into their very soul?
Have you ever looked into someone's eyes and felt so connected- that they almost didn't need to say anything...because their eyes, the windows into their souls, were speaking volumes?
I have.
I've been haunted by these eyes for months now.
Late at night, while I'm praying for Olga and Kareen and Peter...their eyes are ever before me.
If you're new here, and these children's faces are the first you've seen of what happens to babies born with Down syndrome in many other nations of the world, I'm asking you...to look into their eyes.
In Eastern Europe, babies born with Down syndrome are deemed unacceptable at birth. They are discarded in overcrowded and understaffed orphanages, where they will wait in a hellish existence until the age of five. At that age they will be transferred to a mental insitution..for life.
If those words sicken you, as they do me...
if the thought of these children...
who could be my children...my Lily...
who are destined to a life of abandonment and grief and ugliness so horrid most of us can't even watch a five minute video about it
turns your stomach
then DO something about it.
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. Proverbs 24:11
You see you don't have to have incredible wealth or ability or even a perfect heart to rescue one of these children. You don't have to have resources untold or even piles of compassion...you just need a heart to save
just
one.
I've heard it said- but where will it stop? Once you see the need, where will it end?
I can't tell you that. But I can tell you where it starts.
With just one.
If I were to tell you the miracles that have taken place in the last 24 hours, as we geared up for this giveaway...it might take you several hours to read about them. I can't even begin to tell you the favor and grace of God that has been on our lives and on those who have been helping us put this all together. I'm looking at the time in the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen and although I'm staring at 2:09 AM, I'm running on adrenaline and caffeine right now.
Because although my heart is heavy for these little ones, and what they are facing without our help...I am so very excited to see what God is going to do here in the next ten days.
Because this a God thing.
I'm calling this fundraiser "Pure Love Giveaway" for a reason...
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
Pure Love motivates us to go beyond sympathy into compassion and then moves us to action.
Many of you are aware that the two little girls who are pictured above, Olga and Kareen, are now going to be rescued very soon. This is in no small part do to the very large outpouring of love from readers in December's giveaway.
I was able to get some information about Peter today, from another family who has adopted from his orphanage. Peter has been on Reece's Rainbow his entire life. Not one inquiry has ever been made about him.
This mama's words about Peter broke my heart.
Peter was never outside. Only one time (in 4 weeks) when we were walking around the building did we see him. He was sitting in a small ambulance-car on a caregiver's lap, probably ready to leave for a medical appointment. The door was open. He was smaller than I thought he would be. I didn't want to stare and get in trouble, but that was the only time I saw him.
Do his eyes speak to you...like they do to me?
Rescue me.
I blogged about this yesterday, and I'm going out on a limb again here today.
When I asked Andrea Roberts what suggestions she had for saving Peter, her words cut me to the heart...
I wish I had a suggestion about Peter....I have been advocating for him for YEARS. Nothing short of a full grant is going to do much for him, I'm afraid.
So you know what I determined in my heart?
We're going to get Peter a full grant.
And yes, I'm shaking a little in my shoes as I type those words. I know how crazy that sounds. A full grant is $20,000. That's a big pile of money.
But guess what? I serve a big God.
I truly believe God can do this for Peter. There are so many who have a heart to help and who truly see the desperate need of these orphans.
The sitemeter stats for Lily's blog this week were 3,236 hits. We're going to do our giveaway for ten days. If every person who visits this blog gives just $10...that would mean Peter's life.
I am praying God multiplies...finances, readers, blog hits, you name it.
And to motivate those who would give, we have a whole slew of prizes to giveaway.
And all you need to do is give ten dollars to enter. If you can give more, that is wonderful. But even ten dollars can make a huge difference in these children's lives.
Soooo here we go....

And here are the details:
Each of the above prizes (except for the Ipad gift pack which has several items included and stated) is a separate prize.
Feb 1st: UPDATED TO ADD: OLGA HAS A FAMILY!!!!!!!!! we will announce them as soon as we get the all-clear so that you can go follow their journey! We can't wait for you to see who this amazing family is:)
Feb 4th: UPDATED TO ADD: At this point we are so amazed at what has come in already for Kareen and Olga, that we feel our goals have been met for these beautiful little girls.
Kareen's family, the Cox's wanted to express their sincere love, gratitude and appreciation for those who have given to Kareen and prayed for her. They would love you to continue to follow the details of the journey with them here...
http://kareensjourneyhome.blogspot.com/
They have one more day left for their iPad giveaway, as well as future fundraising efforts, so please do become a follower on Kareen's Journey Home !
And I wanted to add..we're already planning a little reunion here in Oregon with the Cox family when they have their beautiful daughter home. I had the privilege of talking to Kris and Kecia today and words fail me to describe what a joy that was. I'm beyond blessed to have been a small part of their journey.
(If you donated already to Kareen or Olga, your comments of course still count as entries in the giveaway)
Leave one comment for each of the following: YOU MUST FIRST MAKE A DONATION TO ENTER BEFORE RECEIVING ADDITIONAL ENTRIES FOR FB'ING OR BLOGGING
*a donation to Peter
*a donation to Artem
*Blog about this giveaway (please re-post often!)
*post on Facebook about this giveaway(please re-post often!)
And just because we want this thing to go viral...if you get a media outlet, such as a news station or radio station, to cover this giveaway...you can have ten extra entries. CALL OPRAH! ;)
I'm going to explain something here briefly. Reece's Rainbow is a non-profit organization. To keep them functioning as such, they are completely dependent on donations to the Voice of Hope fund. As stated on Reece's Rainbow's website..
"Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each waiting child donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund as well!"*
*This applies to any amounts over $20.
My sweet little inside source, Michelle Z at RR has hooked me up with that nifty new gadget you see on the sidebar to your right. You just click on the donate button under the child who you are giving to, and it will take you directly to the Paypal page linked to their account.
Once you make a donation, their new total will be reflected right here on the blog!
We already had $1,200 donated to Peter's fund yesterday...and I believe that is just a taste of good things to come. Scratch that. GREAT THINGS TO COME.
So spread the word- Lily is giving away the motherload of prizes, and all you have to do to enter to win is give to at least $10 to Peter.
And if I spelled anything wrong, please forgive this little zombie-of-a-mama cuz it's now 3:18 AM.
I'm going to bed a happy woman:)

I donated to Peter. I have faith that he will find his forever family soon.
Donations all went through! Now Facebooked the giveaway.
Race, come on, that tutu would look cute on you, embrace your feminine side...
Patti, was thrilled by your email, seeing just how God works and how great his timing can be. Am praying for a miraculous response. Will be blogging, posting, donating later. Haven't had time yet , something about needing a little sleep before going to work after being at the hospital with little Reagan, Shauna, and Grammy. Side note... (relates to what you said about Peter) Grammy used to volunteer in Childlife at the same hospital where Reagan is now (Loma Linda Childrens Hospital) working with the children. There was a very small child there (abandoned by his mother at birth) who had spent most of his life in a hospital. Some good friends decided to foster him (they later adopted him) and when he left the hospital for the first time he was afraid of the sky!!! In his world you needed a ceiling over your head. Peter doesn't know about the sky either!
Patti, it is my heartfelt prayer that God blesses Peter with a forever home. He is so sweet, it just breaks my heart. God bless this giveaway.
Sharing on FB now too.
Very touched.........thank you.
Just donated to peter.
Patti, amazing post....will donate, now
As will the rest of my family...& hopefully, everyone else that I let know about your post!

Hi Patti,
I donated to Peter.
Something that makes me wonder - back in early January, I signed up to be a New Years Warrior for a little girl (Evie) on Reece's Rainbow myself, and I mentioned it in a comment on one of your posts. A few days later, a $1000 dollar donation was made to her. I wonder if it was the same anonymous donor that gave the $1000to Peter? God bless them anyway, whether ot not!
Okay, I emailed everyone I have an address for and I asked my friends and family who Facebook to post something on their page!
Just blogged about it: http://amysramblingsandreflections.blogspot.com/2011/02/pure-love-giveaway.html I posted it to my FB and will wait until tomorrow to post your direct blog on FB to bring more attention.

Dear Patty - Thanks for your wonderful witness!! I donated to Peter's fund on Tuesday - have never posted a comment online before -so hopefully I do this right.God Bless you!! Angie B.
What a wonderful thing you are doing! Bless you and those sweet kiddos. I donated to Peter! :)
Alyssa- not sure if you will come back to read the comments. But Patti's Big God can also be your Big God, and in fact, He wants you to look to Him as the author and finisher of your faith. He is the only True God and the only way to eternal life. If you believe on His Son, Jesus, you will have life and have it abundantly in Him.You will be rescued from death to life! And He will use you to accomplish His Work and you will see Him perform miracles in your life day after day. But even more than that, you will receive forgiveness from all of yours sins and be set free to live for Him daily. I know this comment section is not about this, but really felt compelled to write that to Alyssa. May God surround you with His Mighty Love!
Love seeing God move in His people to speak up for and rescue His children.
Patty - you are so amazing!! I love your blogs..I pray we together as a big group can get Peter fully funded and the forever family he deserves. As soon as I can I will donate to all three of them and comment again :) I did repost on facebook and I will add your link to my blog too. Prayers that people will amaze you with generosity!!
I donated to Peter's adoption fund!

Okay, for some of us, giving ten dollars is truly a HUGE sacrifice. And we have given that in spite. And for others of us, we know that ten dollars for us is quite easy to give, or was quite easy to give. So, I just want to challenge all of us. Lets give what is truly a sacrifice for us. Lets give again if ten dollars was easy for us to give. Lets give $100.00, $200.00, $500.00... whatever is truly a sacrifice for us. I am so moved by the lady in Scripture that gave ALL she had. We really cannot out give God. We sow seeds, and He is the One that truly gives us all things anyways. So, I ask today for anyone reading this. What is a sacrifice for you for these orphans? Will you consider giving it? What are you holding onto it for? See if we can answer these questions and be willing to lay it down for Him. I know there is so much out there to give to, but I cannot think of too many things more important than these orphans. Peter's life depends on this NOW. If we can help just one. Thank you Patti for sacrificing so much for these orphans and truly relying on His strength to sustain you. You are a testimony of His love to all of us!

Hi Patti,
Wow, you won't be getting any sleep for a while with all of these wonderful comments. I just donated to Peter and wanted to let you know that I did comment on Oprah's site. The comment right before mine was on how her show should concentrate on small charities and how they benefit the community. It left the web address to your site so that even if the show doesn't do anything the people who read the comments might come here and take a look. I am still trying to figure out how to email her show. I'll let you know if I get any type of response :) I will be blogging about it to but just haven't been able to find the time as of yet.
I donated to Peter.
I blogged about this.
I facebooked it. Praying.
Okay, I figured out how to email the show. Down at the very bottom of the web page there is a contact link. It's by Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policies. I think if more people emailed they might take notice. After you click on contact us go to the one that says The Oprah Show - Send us your show suggestions. I'm sure they plan their shows far in advance but am still hopeful that they will feature these children so that more people know they exist.
Donated for Kareen! Will FB and blog tonight...
Donated to Peter and praying his forever family will find him soon.
Patti you are truly amazing! Thank you for being an advocate for these sweet babies! I am posting on facebook and twitter and my blog. I am a Photographer in Lake Norman NC. and have promised a $50 Gift Certificate to anyone who donates $25 of more to Reeces Rainbow. I know it is not a lot but I just had to help!
