I mustache you a question

Although this post really could go on our family blog, I chose to use it here on Lily's blog. A) because it's so cute and Lily's blog gets more traffic, so I don't want people to miss it   B) it does have some adorable photos of Lily in it   C) Jason's birthday - my oldest, who turned 25 - coincides with World Down Syndrome Day, March 21st, so it's fitting to keep these photos together   and finally D) I'm the blog author, so I get full license to do whatever I want. So there.

Onto the pics...

Jason Christopher Rice, my oldest son, turned 25 this past Thursday. I CANNOT believe I have a child that old, when I am only 27 myself. He was named after my favorite (okay only) brother, Christopher, thus his middle name.

SO here are my oldest and my youngest (for now) on World Down Syndrome Day/Jason and Uncle Chris's birthday ....

Aren't they cuuuuute ???

We had Jason, Naomi, and Baby K over for donuts....

Jason asked for one of those thingamabobbers that suctions your cell phone to the windshield....helloooo hands-free Oregon...

His lovely wife Naomi bought him a bike on Craigslist and showed him the pic on her phone....

Can I just say I have THE most gorgeous daughter-in-loves on the planet ?? My boys picked good !!!

And now for the reason for the title of this post.

I am probably going to offend someone here.

It's not my intention to do so.

Really.

Promise.

It's not.

But....

I HATE MUSTACHES.

Not on everyone else.

Well, some people.

Hitler.

Groucho Marx.

Hulk Hogan.

Al Gore.

But everyone else is fine.

Just

not

my

husband

.....

Sigh.

It is a current source of contention in our home.

He grew one after not shaving for several days, coming back from Disneyland. Or rather, he's growing one. Mackenzie says it's a midlife crisis. I say it's disgusting. And Baby K says...well see for yourself :

He said very clearly - NOoooo.

Papa thinks I brainwashed him ahead of time.

I say the boy just has common sense.

Some people look good in a mustache. My husband is not one of them. I think it makes him look older, and weasly (I told him this!) and it feels grose when I kiss him (I've since boycotted that), and it changes his whole appearance. I want my Sammy back.

So consequently, along with boycotting kissing, I boycotted shaving my armpits. I'm not joking. And I can't believe I just admitted that on A Perfect Lily, but there you have it. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

He says he will shave it in a few days, and that he's never had one, so he's just trying it out for a week.

I hope he's serious, because I miss his kisses. And plus I'm starting to feel itchy.

So I mustache you a question - do you like his mustache ? Or do you, like me, think he looks a little bit like one of those old time slimy gangsters.....

....like that ^^^^^   ???

Sam, if you're reading this, that's what you look like to me.

Marlon Brando called from the grave...he wants his mustache back.

Okay, moving on....here are a few more CUTE pictures from that morning...

My grandbaby and my baby. Sweetest.kids.ever.

And that concludes this weekend's post. Please don't forget to leave your opinion in the comment section. For the record, Lily hates her daddy's mustache too. She hasn't boycotted kisses or shaving, but she told me this as I was typing.

For reals.

Happy Weekend !!

I am not sure that I hate your husbands mustache. As a rule I do not like them on anyone. And I am with you they are way too itchy. I to would boycott kissing. My fair, sensitive skin cannot deal with whiskers of any kind.

the rule in our house: a mustache on my husband=lonely lips. i HATE mustaches. all of them. he has a chin strap beard. i'm cool with that.
and our shilo, doesn't like any of his facial hair at all. she squints and wiggles away when he kisses her. and she won't give him any of her big open mouth kisses that she shares generously with my smooth mama cheeks. :)

i too would boycott shaving if my husband grew a mustache.

I. can. Not. stop. Laughing. Omg!!!! This post is the Funniest Ever. For the record i hate mustaches too!

I hate them too. You cracked me up, especially your arm pit shaving boycott.

Many. many years ago, I had a psychology professor tell me that men that grew mustaches had something to hide!!!!
I don't know if that's true or not....but, ever since I heard that, I always wonder what the mustachioed one is hiding!!!

(Maybe a new diamond ring for you!)

Anonymous - I have heard the SAME thing, only about beards ! Hmmmm....

Oh, no no no Sam! Midlife crisis indeed! Muschase must GO!

That is absolutely hysterical! When I met my Tom he had a 'stache. I am not a fan of ANY facial hair (I used to refer to guys as having a "cheesy stache" or being a "big Flyers fan"). I remember two New Year's Eve's later when Tom shaved HALF of the 'stache off. I said, "Oh no!!! You have no upper lip!!!".... but it was past the point of no return!! That said, I do prefer clean shaven. (I guess it is a guy thing - so hang in there!!)

Anna Theurer said...

Oh Patti, I just love your sense of humor over the mustache. Yes, they look good on some people. Seeing as you have to look at your husband daily and kiss that gnarly stubble, I think you get a little bit of a say in this. Although it is his face. hum. . . . so I say, boycott shaving the armpits! Plus, Baby K has indeed spoken.

Happy birthday to your eldest. My brother shares the same birthday only he is 30yo. For some reason, I still think of my brother as not old enough to drive, let alone be the Big 3-0. Hmmmm.

Miss Lily is gorgeous as always. That cheeky smile of hers! I do love the photograph of Jason giving Naomi a big smooch. LOVE IT!

The thing is, after seeing your pics, I now want a donut. It is 10:30pm over here and I am seriously contemplating finding a Krispe Kreme or 24 hour Dunkin Donuts. Must. Have. Donuts.

Okay, I am monopolizing the comments. Great post. I needed that laugh. Great photos. hugs and loves.

Well, I don't think your husband looks gangster by any means, but he is much more handsome without it. :) I, myself, prefer the clean shaved look on a man... that is my opinion. I hope my vote counts and you get to kias your wonderful husband soon. But, most of all I hope you get to shave your armpits!! LOL. LOL. :)) P.S. I have never commented on a blog post before so I want you to know that I am rooting for you Patti!! hehe

Yay, Heidi ! Score : Patti - 9 Sam - 0 !!!

Kathy McElhaney said...

Well let's up the score to 10-zip!!

Funny that your oldest turned 25 and you are 27. My sister's twin girls turned 26 this week and she is only 29 ;)

I am also on the "anti-mustache" train. Please shave it Sam!!!!..... (. The armpit hair will win in the end....and he cant resist ur lips that long)... Oohhh la la!!!

Monique Rice said...

I don't really think he looks that much different at all and thinks he looks fine :-)

Lora said...

I prefer clean shaven too. I DO think Tom Selleck looks pretty good with a mustache. But for the most part I like no facial hair! :)

cara said...

Well, you do have some beautiful daughter-n-loves! That is because your sons were raised with such a beautiful mama! They knew how to pick. :)

I also have NEVER liked mustaches. But I also do not like much facial hair at all. Although, I am not winning here. I actually gave up. Jon shaves and grows it out only to shave again and grow it out again. And this is ongoing.

Happy, happy birthday to your son, Jason!! LOVE the pictures of he and Lily. xoxo

I normally try NOT to look at other women's husbands but you asked..... So. lol I think he is far more handsome clean shaven. :)
Please make sure he understands that my vote is not biased because my dear husband has had a mustache since before the day I met him thirty years ago. Occasionally he grows a goatee.... I. do. not. like. it. O_O
Mustache he pulls off very well.... goatee? Not so much.

Mrs. K said...

Sorry Sam, you are not the mustache type in my humble opinion.
Didn't lole Dad's mustache and beard at first but got used to it. Patti, I almost barfed visualizing you with hair pits. DISGUSTING!!!!!

Jolene said...

I am not a fan of facial hair. I prefer my man without but he only shaves a few days a week (can we say procrastinator) and I just don't dig facial hair!

When I was pregnant these last 2 times I only had to shave like twice...Seriously! weirdest pregnancy symptom ever! No shaving!

Crystal said...

My husband is in the Air Force, and every March a lot of squadrons do "Mustache March." I HATE IT! The only man who looks good with a mustache is Tom Selleck!

Mariah said...

Dave had a moustache from the day I met him until he turned 30... about 12 years. Actually longer cuz he had it before I met him. One day he went upstairs and shaved it off without announcement or fanfare. I had to get used to him not having one but I wouldn't want him to go back to it now. But if he did I'd have to be thankful it's just a moustache and not an expensive sports car lol! Although a sports car would be fun for me too....

nicole said...

To be perfectly fair, it's hard to say how Sam looks in a mustache because what he has now is a poor excuse for one ;) Clean shaven is always better in my opinion.

My husband *tried* to grow one after our first son was born. Since I had something beautiful to kiss besides him I didn't think I would mind. By the end of the week we didn't understand why we were not feeling very close and bickering. It was the lack of tenderly kissing each other throughout the day because I was afraid of the prickles! Seriously! He may go a few days but we don't go so long now.
On the opposite end, my dad always wore a mustache when I was growing up. One time he shaved it when I was young and I remember hating it and not wanting to kiss him until he grew it back! I still don't like it when my dad doesn't have one.
Your husband is very handsome (much like my dashing husband!). Go ahead and kiss him but tell him "ouch!" each time you do!
As for your underarms--who had time to shave anyway! ; - )

Brilliant! Your hubby is very good looking says I all the way from ireland (let's pit a positive spin on this, in case you are showing him these comments as evidence :-)), but looks a LOT better without one. I reckon you won't need our opinion anyhow; boycotting the kissing and no arm pit shaving (if you will last!!!) will surely prompt him to reconsider. Way to go...!!!!

Sarah said...

you are so good natured:) yes, I agree. I'm not a fan of the mustache.

Jennifer said...

I am a no to facial hair generally and a big no to mustaches. So on principle I can't say yes to any mustache. It looks like you are going to win by a landslide. :)

This post cracked me up. I love the no armpit shaving. For your sake I hope he shaves soon.

My dad always had a mustache and I always thought he looked weird when he did shave. And my husband has a mustache and goatee and I think he looks weird when he shaves so I think it kind of depends on the man. I would never say I am a fan in general though and I think your husband looks much more handsome without :)

Beckey said...

Haha! I prefer gotees (don't know how to spell that off the top of my head!) I think the mustache makes him look like a police officer, I have no idea why. :)

mummalove said...

Sorry Sam, but mustache must go ;)

Lori said...

I say grow it out sam....in the kopp house we have lots of facial hair and the daddy and the boys have fun with their mustaches, soul patches, long sideburns, foo man choose...I think it looks good!!! I love Chris with his beards, mustaches etc...

Barb said...

You have a sweet handsome hubby, who just happens to look more handsome WITHOUT the mustache. My hubby has had one longer than I have known him, but it is scratchy and prickly. And let's not talk about how awful the beard is when he grows it for hunting season. :p
Maybe you could do a countdown til shaving day, much like an Advent calendar, LOL. It will be good to have him back to "normal".

I just had to weigh in on this one.
EWWWWW!! I laughed out loud at the weasly remark and gave a hearty amen. Ugh. Shiver. Shudder. Honestly, I haven't shaved my pits in 4 years. No one sees, no one knows, the itchy is very quickly gone. But a mustache? The whole world can see!

Heather said...

I am laughing so hard! Ya, Sam is not a stash guy. Way more handsome sans stash.

Elle's mommy said...

greatest post ever...i am dying laughing...and if i can still vote, i am gonna have to go with weasly... :)

So far (counting mine) the comments are 37 from women, one from a guy.

Methinks your statistical sampling methods are a bit lacking, and no valid conclusion can be reached using such a flawed data set.

Patti said...

John- you're a man...with a mustache...you don't count.

Sharlene Teeling said...

My husband knows, absolutely NO facial hair... Or there will be consequences. Lol! He wouldn't care about my armpit shaving so I have to go a little more drastic. He loves facial hair and thinks it's ” manly”, he grew up with a dad that has a full beard/mustache and he really admires his dad. But i'm not willing to compromise, I hate the feel and look of facial hair. He is allowed to have side Burns if he keeps them maintained :-) oh Patti, I feel your pain! And I was laughing the whole time!

hhenning said...

If Sam is anything like my husband he will add another day for every vote against him:)!

Mom, let him keep if he wants to keep it! It's just something that a man\guy goes through life. I mean, can you blame him? He's just trying something new!

haha, I hate them too! Don't find them attractive at all! My sweet husband knows how much I hate facial hair and does his best to stay shaved. I don't know why but I really can't stand facial hair!
