winners and reader shout-out

Before I announce the two winners from Jack and Lily's Giveaway Wednesday, I wanted to start a new tradition here on A Perfect Lily.

I've said it before, but I absolutely adore reading the comment section here. Sometimes I purposely don't read them for the day and just save them up to savor when all the kids are in bed. Because truly, this blog and the support and love we've received here since Lily's birth are like my favorite dessert...and your comments are the cherry on top. Sometimes when I'm having a bad day, I'll go back and re-read some of my favorite comments, and just like that I have a new perspective on things. I don't think it's a coincidence that one of my favorite scriptures is this:

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Proverbs 25:11

Isn't that a perfect illustration of what kind words are like? Truly, they are a beautiful thing.

So many comments left here are ones that I want other readers to enjoy too....and sometimes they're things I hope others will pray about. Other times there are questions asked in the comment section that I want to answer, but I'm not sure the reader will come back to read my response (especially if I took too long to answer it!)

Sooo...I thought it would be fun to do a reader shout-out once in awhile, by posting some of the comments from the comment section that stand out to me....remember Romper Room? Kind of like that. Only cooler.

Ready? Let's roll!

Thanks for the post. While I wasn't planning to see this movie, I certainly won't now.

Patti- if you don't mind my asking, what sort of media do you use with your kids? I would love to be able to use something other than TV, DVD's, etc. w/ my son. We let him watch Veggietales, and he seems to like the songs and bright colors. We have also started using the Signing Time DVD's. He is 9-months old and doesn't have any disabilities. My wife & I are considering adoption of a child w/ DS and would to know what sort of things you use.

Thanks, Griz...you left a comment awhile ago that I really wanted to post here as well, but it will take me a little while to find it in the archives. For now I'll just answer your question: you're probably familiar with this already, but our kids LOVE Adventures in Odyssey audio tapes and cd's. They've listened to them since my oldest was a little boy, and they are great for road trips or even just going to sleep at night. My husband and I are, ahem, addicted to them as well:) They always have a "moral to the story" at the end, and they are so entertaining. They're really well done, as are the other Focus on the Family audio books like Les Miserables, Ben Hur, and of course the Narnia series. We love Veggie Tales and Signing Times as well!

Hi Patti. I don't know if it's something about the way your security settings are or if it's something on my end, but EVERYTIME I try to click on any link, regardless of whether it's in your post or in someone's comment, etc I get a little white box that pops up & it reads 'copyright 2011 babynumber10.blogspot.com All Rights Reserved', but it still won't let me open that link in a new window. All I can do is open another tab next to yours & hover on the link, look down at the bottom of my screen, and manually copy the web address into the other tab's search bar, going back & forth between your tab & the link's tab. Can you walk me through what I'm doing wrong? I will post a link to you blog here on my FB so friends can still see what you wrote. I hope that counts for half a point anyway! lol Hugs to Lily & her sibs too!

Hi Rick and Michelle...I have never had anyone tell me that before! I do have all my words and pictures copyrighted, and a handy little code embedded in my blog prevents (or at least attempts to) people from snagging them...but the blue links should work! I wish I could help you, but I'm not sure why that's happening. Maybe one of my techy readers can help us here:)

And my very favoritest comment of the week...

My daughter is watching television, so I haven't watched your video yet, but... My husband and I got news today: Our unborn son has Down Syndrome. We will not be terminating our pregnancy. We love our son and we know we can handle this. I've read some wonderful things said about children with DS. I appreciate knowing now so that I can learn a lot and connect with local (and online) support before our son is even born.

(Your blog was recommended to me by a friend.)

Momma Jorje- I couldn't even read your comment out loud to my family without stopping six times to compose myself. Congratulations- you are about to embark upon one of the most beautiful journeys life can offer. If you have a blog, I'd love to follow... and welcome to one of the nicest clubs on the planet:)

SO that's all for our Reader Shout-Out today...wasn't that fun? See, it pays to leave comments...you never know when you'll be famous.    teehee!

Okay, now for our winners. And just because I am in an extremely generous mood I am drawing three winners instead of two!

It's nice to see this bandwagon get bigger. I posted about it (a little indirectly) today too and then saw all the other great posts. It's a good venue to get this perspective out! We're on board!

Your Lily is PERFECT and I am so glad to have found your blog! I have supported Gretchen's efforts and have been writing letters, emailing and encouraging others to do the same. As the mom of 4 young kids, 2 with Down Syndrome, I know how terrible these words can be. In April my family was the victim of a terrible hate crime. We woke to find someone had spray painted our home and car with things like "get outta town retards" and "retards dead". Our home had to be partially resided, the garage repainted the cars repaired. When Hollywood now encourages the use of "downsy" as a punchline and thinks "retarded" is okay to say jokingly I am tempted to mail them the costs we incurred for the damage to our property. If they are making money on these terms and jokes, surely they can pay for it, right!?!?!?! Adding your blog to my favorites! I look forward to most posts!
*Hollis Family- I am happy and proud to stand with you against discriminatory slurs!

Winners, please email me your addresses so I can get your Lilybird hair clippies in the mail to you this weekend!
One more item and then I'm going to bed...if you hadn't noticed, there's a new little button on my sidebar called "Lily's Scentsy Store." (and if you click on it, it will take you there)...

Yesterday I became an official Scentsy consultant. Woot!   I have been addicted to Scentsy ever since one of my best friends gave me a warmer and bag of bars for my birthday a few years ago. And I have a stockpile of bars in my kitchen cabinet to prove it!

I filled out this questionnaire one time about what kind of person I was...and one of the questions was which of your senses impacted your outlook on life the most. Like would you be more prone to have a bad day if you woke up hearing something obnoxious, or feeling cold or smelling a terrible odor. And it really made me realize that I am totally a "smelling" kind of a person. (smelling, not smelly :P ). If a restaurant or a store or a house smells heavenly, I am so much more apt to stay and relax and enjoy myself than if there is no scent at all.

The same holds true in my home. Our house is filled with kids and pets of every shape and size, and you can imagine what that does to the natural aroma of things. It is amazing what one little Scentsy warmer can do to the whole atmosphere in our home. It's not just the fragrance that I'm addicted to, but the feeling I get when I smell tranquil fresh Luna or comforting Welcome Home ...it's like the whole tone of things changes when I plug my Scentsy in. Suddenly it's okay that I can see the mountain of laundry lying on the couch waiting to be folded or hear the screeching of the cat as my four year old whacks it on the backside for climbing through the open window.... because I'm smelling comfort and tranquility!

For the rest of the month of August ALL products in Lily's Scentsy Store are ten percent off. I'm very new at this, so if you ask me the difference between a bar and a brick (haha, Lori) I will prob'ly tell you I'll get back to you on that one. But I WILL tell you that Baked Apple Pie will make your mouth water and that Beach will transport you instantly to one and that Cinnamon Vanilla makes me wanna scrapbook. Don't ask me why. It just does.

Anyhoot, check out Lily's Scentsy Store and take advantage of 10% everything. And if you're local, order from me in person and you can skip the shipping. And if you don't live here, but you want to come visit me...isn't that extra incentive???

We'll be back with lovely Lily photos soon.

Happy Thursday!

I love my Scentsy I received from Lori, Chris and the grandchildren for my birthday. Mine is the outdoorsy decantor but I am looking at the red one you have in your ad and may order that one for our bedroom. Good luck on your new venture.

Love to all my smelly grandchildren. ;>) Just kidding, about the smelly part. :>O

I am a total "smell" person too! There's nothing like a bad smell to put me in a bad mood, and a pleasant smell just gives me a lift. I have a very sensitive nose, and I smell things that other people don't. I thought I was unique in this way, so it's nice to know there is someone else like me who just loves a good smell. ;) I love Scentsy and will place an order with you to help kick off your new business. I will also make a point of making a trip down the 5 to come pick up my order. I would love to meet Lily, and I'm sure my little son would too. :)

Yay, Angie! If you shop Patti's Basket Party it will ship to me...when it arrives we can plan a meet up! How fun!

Oh wow, thanks for the shout out!! I missed that entry and didn't really go to it because I thought it was about something from before I subscribed. Thanks for commenting on my blog to let me know!

I, too, wish there were a better way for readers to see responses. I can never remember to go back to every post upon which I commented - just for the possibility of a reply.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope you'll follow. :-) I got a lil choked up reading your shout out to me. :)

Just hearing your daughter's name makes me smile! We have a Lili ourselves just spelled a little different. I'm excited to check out your Scentsy store. We bought a Scentsy Pal (at least I think that is what it's called). It's the little lamb, super cute and soft. We picked the newborn nursery packet and it smells just like baby powder. It is perfect for our little Brooklyn's room and I'm sure she will love snuggling with it when she gets a little older. The bonus is now her room smells like baby powder versus dirty diapers :)
