dedication

Dearest Lily,

Last Friday night was a very special night for you. We just completed our church building project, and we had a dedication service...we wanted to dedicate our church to the work of the Lord, and Daddy asked Pastor Foley to come preach for us. Pastor Foley is the area leader for our fellowship of churches, and he was also the first pastor Daddy and I had 26 years ago. He's not just our pastor, he's one of our closest friends, and we love him and his wife Janet more than words can say.

Janet was at the birth of your brother Caleb...Pastor Foley had been in the hospital room right up until delivery. He prayed for us and slipped out of the room...two minutes later Caleb- literally- slipped out under the covers. I kid you not, Lily- there was no pushing, and when I frantically told the doctor "the baby is out!" he whipped back the covers and proclaimed, "WE HAVE A BABY HERE!" I have never experienced such a supernatural delivery, and I told Pastor Foley he should start a ministry of praying for laboring women!

Anyway, Daddy asked Pastor Foley to help us dedicate our building on Friday, and while he was here to dedicate you as well. A dedication ceremony is simply bringing you before the congregation and agreeing together in prayer for you and for us..that we would have the grace and wisdom to raise you to know Jesus, and to be the best parents we could possibly be...and that you would grow up to serve the Lord.

We weren't sure how you would do when we passed you to Pastor Foley. You looked a little nervous, but you didn't cry. You just stared at the congregation and sat very quietly in our pastor's arms while we all prayed.

In our church we raise our hands when we pray corporately- as an act of surrender to God. The sweetest thing happened as we were all praying for God's blessing on you...

You stared out at the congregation and very seriously lifted your tiny hand as well. You held your little hand up in the air the entire time and just sat calmly and quietly while we dedicated your life to the Lord. Daddy nudged me at the end of our prayer so I could see what you were doing....talk about tears! What a beautiful night, Lily. I have no doubt that your life will have greater impact than we could have ever imagined, and that you will truly be a blessing to everyone you meet.

Saturday we spent the whole day at church- for our grand opening we held a family fun day both inside and outside our new building. We had a water slide, darts and ping pong competitions, arts and crafts stations and a barbeque going on. I ran the snack station- all the free popcorn and freezer pops and lemonade anyone could ask for.  Needless to say, you were in snack Heaven.

Yesterday after church you showed Daddy some tricks you've been practicing all week. We have no idea what you think you're accomplishing, but it is so darn cute to see you repeating this again and again..

You get up on all fours and then push your little toosh straight up in the air for several seconds... then you throw yourself back until you PLOP onto the floor. Next you thrust your arms up in the air, yell "AAAHHH!" and throw yourself onto your back! Then you burst out into the silliest fake laugh while you're lying there.... it's the funniest thing! You sit up and look at all of your siblings with this goofy grin on your face and wait until they all clap and cheer for you....and you start the whole show again. You are a ham!

Just now Abigail and Noah came running in the room yelling, "Mama! Lily is STANDING!!" They said you keep pulling yourself up while you hold onto their hands and then you let go on purpose so you can stand alone for a few seconds. I can still hear the cheering going on, so I better go see what you're up to...

Love always,
Mama oxox

She is so close to figuring out how to get herself into standing all on her own!

I'm gonna need a video of those tricks. They sound awesome! :)
That's precious that she was "praying" a blessing over the congregation while they prayed for her.

Ironic. Ping pong competition...and I wasn't told until the next day. Hmm. Pat...too many tears for one day?

oh race. I didn't want to humiliate you in front of all those people. it's bad enough that you've gone totally gray while I remain looking 25.

That Lily-kins is just too sweet, raising her hand to Jesus. And, I just love her bazumba stuck in the air and can just about hear her giggles. Lily just never ceases to be adorable and amazing.
