A Baby Sent From the Stars Giveaway

Dear Friends,

If you are coming here to read about Down syndrome or my daughter Lily, we're doing something a little different here today on A Perfect Lily.

Typically I use this blog to advocate for children with Down syndrome, to fundraise and raise awareness for Reece's Rainbow, post pictures of Lily for our extended family and friends..or simply just journal letters to my daughter.

Today I'm presenting an opportunity for our family and friends to support two people very dear to my heart; my son Jason and his wife Naomi.

If you're reading and you're new here, a little background is necessary...

Jason and Naomi met in church almost 16 years ago, when they were 7 years old.

Photobucket

They played together as children, and as our families became extremely close, they had the opportunity to get to know each other... and eventually became best friends.

Over the years that friendship turned to love, and at age 18 and 17 they began dating. Photobucket Photobucket

When Naomi was 17 she began having some concerns that led to an ultrasound...doctors told her family that she would need surgery to repair a blocked uterus. What they discovered through surgery was that the doctor who read the ultrasound was mistaken; in fact, Naomi was born without a uterus.

I still remember that day, as it was our wedding anniversary, and I was making a special dinner for Sam. Denise called to tell me the news...Naomi was still heavily sedated, and prior to the surgery, one of the last things she told Jason was that she was just so relieved the ultrasound had shown she could have a baby some day. Denise was heartbroken, knowing she had to tell her teenage daughter she would never bear children...when all she ever wanted to be was a mommy. Jason was in another state at a school convention. He called me to ask how the surgery went; I still don't like remembering that heart wrenching conversation.

Photobucket

Fast forward to today...Jason and Naomi will have been married 3 years this August.

Photobucket Photobucket They have been doing foster care for 6 months for two beautiful babies who call them Mommy and Daddy, and who have their Nanas and Papas wrapped around their little fingers. Tomorrow these children go home to their mom, and I would be lying if I said any of us are handling it well. Foster parenting is not for the faint of heart, and I am so proud of my kids for putting their hearts on the line to love someone else's babies.

Photobucket

Jason and Naomi have been praying and planning to adopt from the moment they knew a baby would come to them another way...a baby sent from the stars. We are blanketing our state with letters to every adoption attorney, teen pregnancy center, crisis pregnancy center and pastor we can think of, to get the word out, that they are looking for a baby to adopt. Jason and Naomi have submitted an application to an agency, Journeys of the Heart, and they have been accepted. They are in the process of being approved for a homestudy and will continue to do foster care in hopes of also pursuing an adoption through the state some day. At the moment they haven't signed on the dotted line with the agency...after much prayer they are keeping avenues open to a private adoption before they fully commit to that very expensive route.

It's been on my heart for a long time to do a fundraiser for Naomi. I want to make this clear- I am not running this fundraiser instead of helping our kids on Reece's Rainbow, I'm running this as well as fundraising for RR. This fundraiser is primarily for the friends and family of Naomi and Jason, and although it is open to any who want to participate, we do not expect this to "go viral" in the Down syndrome community. My husband is a pastor, and we take offerings at our church. When visitors come, we still pass the plate, but the "offering" is meant to be for the members of our congregation..we don't want visitors feeling pressured to give, and the same holds true here. I have had some questions about why I am choosing Lily's blog to host this giveaway: simply put, this is where most of our friends and family come. (and yes, Brandon, I know I need to update my family blog!! ;) )

Soooo...without further ado, here's the deal: We are hosting this Baby Sent From The Stars Giveaway to raise funds for Jason and Naomi Rice's adoption...we have a ChipIn set up on the sidebar, and we have some fabulous prizes to give away!!

Details on how to enter are below, and here are the prizes... Naomi's parents, Gary and Denise Brock have donated the following:

This is the coolest thing-Jessica found a way to help our giveaway AND help the Hartmans, who are selling these soaps to fundraise for the adoption of Brady from Reece's Rainbow!!!
Jessica has been looking for a way to donate to our giveaway since it began- she is a faithful reader and loves Lily to pieces...I love reading her emails, and I hope some day she can visit us in America:)
****************************************

So there you have it...over a thousand dollars worth of prizes...and because this is my personal little bloggie and not the Reader's Digest Sweepstakes, and in light of the fact that most people who will be donating will be related to me or friends of mine...anyone can win. Well, okay, not my kids or Naomi's sisters, but everyone else has a fair shot at winning! The giveaway ends Sunday April 24th at midnight and Random.org will choose the winners Monday, April 25th....and there are four ways to enter: (leave a comment for each entry)

*make a donation to Jason and Naomi's adoption fund through ChipIn...any amount is welcome, but paypal really eats up smaller donations, so we are suggesting ten dollars as a minimum.

*post the link to this giveaway on Facebook

*blog about this giveaway

* tweet this giveaway. I am now officially on twitter as @APerfectLily, so you can follow me and if you tweet this, send it to me so I know.

Please leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry and PLEASE leave your comments on this post only.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all have been praying for my kids, and for all the sweet words of encouragement sent their way. I am so blessed to have so many kind friends in blogland, and I really would appreciate your continued prayers....and if you know anyone who is looking for a loving Christian couple to adopt their baby, please tell them about Jason and Naomi.

Love,

Patti

What a beautiful love story!!! I know how thankful you must be for Jason and Naomi. I am SO excited to see what the Lord has for them. I cannot wait to see that precious baby in their arms. It will bless my heart. My heart aches as I know they are having to let go of their precious foster children that they love as their own. I pray that God will raise up many, many young couples like Jason and Naomi. What a sweet example they are of His amaziing love.

I will be spreading the word about this giveaway! I do not want to win, but just excited to see them on this journey. Much love to you all, Cara

Dear Patti,
I know I didn´t write for a long time. Even when I looked daily to your blog and adored the cute Lily and the letter from her daddy. I want to donate something "special" for your giveaway, too. Just as I promised. Please contact me: nuffun@gmx.net
The love story of Jason and Naomi brings joy in my heart.
I´m praying for all the children from Reeces Rainbow, especially for Kyril and Evan.
Kind regards from Germany
Jessica

Just made a donation! I hope Jason and Naomi's dream comes true! (I have a friend who just completed an adoption from Ethiopia, I've been crying all morning at their photos! I know they are looking to adopt in the U.S., but it was still a miracle watching my friend go through the process and come home with this amazing little boy to be in their family!!)

Donated via chipin - I'm sorry it wasn't much -

SoulFull Mama said...

just donated via ChipIn. this is dear to my heart, and I will be praying for that sweet little one who will be Jason and Naomi's son or daughter. Many prayers for you dealing with the hurt of the foster situation as well. Not that this anecdote helps at all, but almost five years ago, my best girlfriend from high school was fostering a little brother and sister whom they told would be opened for adoption; something happened at the last moment, and both children were returned to their biological mother (several months apart...). My friend was obviously devastated, but she kept fostering. This Christmas, she just brought her third son home from the hospital. It is a foster placement, but he is the full biological brother of her two adopted sons, so chances are good. Her daughter was adopted through private adoption....so five years ago, empty arms, broken heart....today, house overflowing, that's what prayer can do ( not that you didn't know that).
