Worthy of Life

Dear Friends,

As many of you read here, I posted the other day about an article I read called "Will babies with Down syndrome slowly disappear?" One man left a comment on that article that cut me to the heart. (You can read his comment in my original post.) I originally intended to offer a lengthy rebuttal to "Modern Sound", in defense of my Lily, and all children and adults who arrived in life guilty of nothing but an extra chromosome.

I put out a request to friends on BabyCenter and Facebook and blogland for photos...and as these amazing pictures began to flood my inbox, I realized there was not much I could say that would speak as eloquently or as profoundly as the faces of our beautiful children.

So "Modern Sound"...if you're reading, know this....

Our children are not suffering.

Our children are not a burden.

Our children are worthy of life and worthy of our love, and we are forever thankful for the incredible joy we know every single day....because of them.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words...

Here's a hundred thousand for you.

Beautiful Patti, Thank you. You can't help but be filled with joy at their beautiful faces and yet, weep at how far we still have to go in making the world see what God sees.

Beautiful video, my girls and I just watched it, they were thrilled to see their brother in there! I cant see how anyone who watches this would think our children are suffering...No one looking at these little faces could think they are anything but amazing!!

Patti,

Thank you for asking for a photo of Jack. Unfortunately, I promised their Father a few things when I started blogging, and among them was that I could protect the pictures from being lifted and abused. I can't do that if I send a picture to you. I'd really love Jack to be included, so thank you for asking. You can lift my header photo, but I don't know that it's what you're looking for. BTW...I LOVE your new header photo...she's just such a doll!

That was great! I cried as I watched all of the beautiful faces. We are all from different parts of the country, different beliefs, different faiths, but we have this connection. Connected by our children. It makes me feel like a part of something that is so much bigger than me.

Beautiful Patti!!! Their faces just melt me. I pray that Modern Sound not only sees that they are not a burden, but gets a glimpse of the extra, extra special blessing their extra chromosome brings. He will see that in this video. And I just want to say that I was thinking about what he said about them suffering. Just like anyone else in this world, some of them may suffer and some of them may never suffer. We all suffer in this fallen world that we live in. I have seen many children without down syndrome that are going through terrible suffering. Should we just abort all people and wipe out humans from our planet?? This is a world that will bring suffering, but thankfully God has an amazing plan and will make all things new. Those whose hope is in Him will rejoice! Thank you for making this video Patti! Once again, you have sacrificed your time to be a voice! Love you, Cara

Gosh, Patti. You'll have to forgive me, but I only feel indebted to Modern Sound. After all, what else would have motivated you to give me such a scrumptious 5 minutes of bliss to begin my day?

And, I have to say, I can totally justify Modern Sound's comment and the push to keep research dollars focused at abolishing Down syndrome. After all, if that research allotment was suddenly directed at the abolishment of close-minded and stupid, Modern Sound and most of the rest of us would spend our lives sweating in fear and avoiding people in white lab coats.

Thanks for my Friday's delicious beginning and your faithful heart...

Oh my gosh....I was balling while I watched that. So many beautiful faces in our community. I just wish that everyone could know what we know and not assume the worst. Thank you so much for giving our kids a voice...you are amazing!!

How many "favorites" are we allowed to have? My favorites were the sleeping newborns or anyone sporting spectacles or cute headbands or big smiles or almond eyes.

If this doesn't touch your heart, then it's just. not. beating.

Working on my personal little response to your "friend" Modern Sound.

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for following God's leading! You are amazing and I am blessed to call you friend.

Wonderful! And apparently my Lily thought so. The two of us watched it together the first time and when it was over I clicked to comment and she started growling. When I asked her what she wanted, she signed "more". LOL We watched it three times!!!

I see so many of the beautiful children of my friends and lots of kiddos whose parents I still hope to "meet".

God bless your efforts on behalf of all our kiddos, Patti!

Patti I'm sure you touched so many hearts w/ this post. Try to remember that the unconsiderate, hurtful comment that was left was done so out of ignorance. Plain and simple. Through this post and so many of your others you are educating and thus removing some of the ignorance from this world. Beautiful pictures that made my heart melt :)

Love this compilation, and will be linking to it (or putting it on my blog) some time during Ds awareness month. I am taking part in the 31-for-21 challenge, so I would love to show this on my blog if that's fine with you. More people should see this :)
