The Most Important Post I Have Ever Written

If you are here to enter for the drawing for the scrapbooking kits- please specify that in the comment section!

***I am updating Olga's totals from donations to Reece's Rainbow daily- she went from $78 when we started to $11,279since this post went up!!! LET'S KEEP THIS MOVING!!****

Dear Readers,

My hands are shaking as I'm typing, so if I misspell some words, that's why.

I spent the day with a little girl on my heart..her name is Olga.

I can't even tell you the burden I have for this little girl.

I am so heavy of heart because of this little baby. She could be my Lily.

Photobucket

Olga turns five next month. In Eastern Europe, babies with Down syndrome are deemed unacceptable at birth. Olga has spent her life in an orphanage...until now. Soon she will be transferred to a mental institution. Forever.

If you don't like to read those words, if hearing about the plight of these orphans turns your stomach (it does mine), if you just can't bear the thought of what happens to those children...

Then be thankful.

Be thankful you have the option of hitting that tiny x at the top right hand corner of your screen.
Because Olga doesn't have that option.

She can't close her eyes and make her whole bad-dream-of-a-life go away.

She is destined to a life of abandonment and grief and ugliness so horrid most of us can't even stand to watch a five minute video about it.

So today, I was praying and crying and writing this post and asking God- what would you have me to do.

Sam came home and we ate dinner as a family, and I tried to enjoy our time together as a family. But I wanted him to read my post from this afternoon, part two of my interview with Lisa Peele, who adopted this year from Reece's Rainbow....I wanted him to tell me what we could do for Olga. We don't have the income to qualify for an adoption on Reece's Rainbow.

But someone out there does.

Tonight while I was searching other adoption blogs, trying to see what could be done to raise money for Olga's adoption fund on Reece's Rainbow, I ran across an amazing story.

One mama, blogging from the heart, raised $20,000 for one little orphan. In five days. She called her post The Most Important Post I have Ever Written. (please click on this link if you want to read her story.)

So tonight I was reading and praying and thinking and brainstorming about how we could help Olga. My husband was doing the same thing, while drafting a letter to friends on his laptop, asking them to help. As I stared at the blog post I mentioned above, I said to him, "I just read about a mom who raised $20,000 in five days."

"How?" Sam asked.

"She had a giveaway on her blog. For an iPad."

**side note: I am so stuck in the nineties...I don't even know what an iPad is. But it must be good :)***

My littles kept coming in for extra goodnight kisses, so I went to tuck them all in and finish up some dishes in the kitchen...still praying... brainstorming... thinking what I could sell...I even looked at my cock-a-poo and wondered how much I could get for her:)

Sam walked in the room with a grin on his face...told me to close my eyes and put out my hands..

And in them he placed a brand new iPod touch.
Photobucket

I have no idea how to use it, or why people like them...but I knew what he was thinking.

Can I just say I love that man????

Turns out he opened a bank account 6 months ago, and "earned" a brand new iPod touch. the NEW iPod touch with a built-in camera. It just came in the mail. He was going to sell it and spoil me with something I would really use for Christmas;) But he knows what I REALLY want.

I want to bring Olga home.

We don't meet the income requirements for Reece's Rainbow.

But someone out there does.

And this is where you come in, dear readers.

I'm giving away this brand new iPod touch (valued at $229 )to one lucky commenter. And I am hoping, praying, shamelessly begging you to give til it hurts. And tell every blessed soul you know about this giveaway. As my husband loves to say- tell your in-laws and out-laws too! Blog about it, Facebook about it, tweet it, text it...just get the word out- Lily is giving away an iPod touch, and all you have to do is donate to Olga to enter.

**this link is like a shopping cart- click on "add" under her picture, which will add her to the cart and at that point you can either order an ornament, make an additional donation, or both.

If Olga has a huge amount in her fund- bank on it- a family will come forward to adopt her. There's not a lack of families who want these babies- there's a lack of finances.

Please spread the word, and please pray for Olga.

I can't think of a better Christmas present, than knowing Olga will be rescued.

Random.org will draw a winner from Lily's comment section Thursday night.

Patti, i can't see the keys to type. THANK YOU!!!!!! And thank you to you sweet sweet hubby!!!!!!!

There is no way this girl is going to an institution!

I'm working on the efforts here on my end. We are going to try to get some kind of news coverage. We'll see!

Patti, I love you and your beautiful family and that God put Sweet Olga in out minds to the point where we cannot think of anything else. i am even more convinced that Sweet Jesus knows we can do this, He wants her home even more than we can imagine!

patti I put my chip in back on my blog but i can't see it, do you see it when you come to my blog?

Lori said...

Patti - posted a special post for Olga - as you know it is a private blog, but I am believing God to get all my readers on there today to say a special prayer for Olga and hopefully get some donations - I am praying with all my heart - and working on a donation - and linking hearts with everyone else - and believing in a Christmas Miracle for Olga.

Sarah said...

I'm on it Patti. I'm going to help you.

patsy said...

patti--tears, tears. we all know there are unfortunately many terrible things that go on in our world....but when you look into the eyes of another child and see your child, it hurts so much more. i know we are not supposed to question, but when i watched stephanie's video... I ask why. why do these sweet angels have to suffer so? i am going to donate some now....and i am going to ask my sisters, parents, in-laws, aunts and friends today if they will please help. all of our 'liitle bits' will have to add up enough to make a difference.

I've donated and FB'd. I don't need an iTouch. I just don't want Olga to go to the institution. Thank you so much for doing this, Patti. I really hope she can find a home...

Patti, Sweetie, I do not blog, I do not go on FB, I do not tweet, I am already a "follower". However, I do pray, I believe, I trust and I will click on Reece's Rainbow and give to Olga as a Christmas present to you and Sam.
P.S. I do NOT want the iPod as I would not know what to do with it. I am happy with my Verizon flip phone that I can speed dial with, take pictures with and text with...and it took me a long time to learn how to do all that. Blessings Sweetie. Love ya, Mom

OK Baby, I just donated $100 for Olga to have a Blessed Christmas in your honor. I challange your followers to match this donation or to come as close as they can afford. Forego those Starbuck latte's for a month, family dinner at a restaurant, a night at the movies for the family, whatever is your passion...give it up for one month and donate to Olga's fund. And PRAY, PRAY, PRAY believing in God's mercy and love.

I had not previously followed your blog, but I do now! I'm heartbroken about this (and all the others!) beautiful little girl. Hoping, hoping, hoping someone can step forward and bring her home.
I've blogged about her after finding your link on the Naretto Family blog. My post is http://thebatesmotel3.blogspot.com/2010/12/most-important-post.html.

Thank you for bringing the plight of the Reece's Rainbow children to the attention of so many.

Patti said...

Thank you, Mommy!!!!!!!!! Don't send us anything else for Christmas- you just gave us the best present ever!!!

Patti - THANK YOU for this post! You can bet I blogged about it! You can see my post here: http://adasperdown.blogspot.com/2010/12/please-help-this-precious-little-girl.html
I also posted it on my FB page as well as on two FB groups I moderate. I pray every day for all of these children. I so hope that working together we can bring Sweet Olga home!

Bulldogma said...

Oh - BTW - I don't have much to give, but I gave as much as I could.

Bulldogma said...

And... I wish I could be as humble as some of the other posters and turn down the chance to win the iPad... but with 3 "special" kids at home, that would come in really handy!

Bulldogma said...

I'll certainly be following your blog going forward. Your daughter is precious! Thank you again for this blog, for helping Olga and for caring!

HUGS!

Following your blog now as well. I am interested to see how much money Olga gets. It's way up from what it was this morning already. :)

One last commment, as much as I would love to be humble and say that I don't need/want the IPOD. I can't, because I have a 14 year old that has been wanting one of these IPOD things for a long time now and there is no way with 7 children that we can afford to buy one. Maybe by some chance I could win one for him.....

Thank you for posting this! I love how much everyone is doing to raise money for these sweet babies. I see my Arina, and can't believe she ever lived in an orphanage! If I squeal in delight, she gets a horrified look on her face, making think that she was yelled at often! We've really had to tone it down with her. But she's growing in leaps and bounds. We need to get these kido's out of there!

This is such an awesome thing and to think that we can all be a part of such a miracle!!
Props to Sam.
This is the guy that can go to the Disneyland booth and plead with them that he drove "all the way from Oregon" and has lost some of his tickets and manages to get the whole family in with no problems.

Or the guy that your family goes on vacation with and gets all 20 of us into the skating rink for the price of about 3? Or goes to the pizza parlor and says what kinda deal can you give a guy with 10 kids? I think they usually end up paying him to eat there!
I think the real way the story goes is that he probably went into the bank and said, "what kinda deal will you give me if I open up an account with you?" :)

But seriously Patti, I think that Lily came into your life for a much bigger purpose that we even realized!! To save little precious lives. One donation at a time!
Love you.

Patti & Sarah, according to the Reece's Rainbow website, you CAN adopt out of the institution. I don't think it happens very often, though. Not sure if it's b/c it's more complicated or if people just are less willing to do it.

Bonnie said...

Patti, My husband and I are blessed with two beautiful girls and may be expecting our third child as I type this. I want you to know that we have donated to Olga's fund. It's not much, but I do hope it helps this wonderful child find a forever home. God bless and lots of love to you and yours.

Hugs and Prayers from the Van Pelts of Virginia.

Sasha Taylor said...

This just breaks my heart. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't look on Reece's Rainbow and bawl my eyes out. I have more than begged my hubby to adopt. Maybe eventually God will move and we can. You were right though...we are able to just push that little x in he upper right hand corner and the nightmare is gone. My heart stays heavy for these kids and I pray for them continually.
Donating and facebooking:)

I know God will bless you for this. You have such a genuine heart and I love that.

Let's also pray that the people in these other countries attitude will change regarding the Mentally challenged..... many people who are mentally challenged can grow up to live wonderfully full, relatively "normal" lives. I am living proof of this.... was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at age 6 but now due to the wonderful healing powers of Jesus, most people would never know this unless I elected to tell them.... So let's pray that people would realize that the diagnosis of a mental handicap, is not the end of the world.

I had no idea that this happened to children across the ocean. I am praying for Olga and all of the children who are neglected and malnourished. I donated, posted about it on my blog and I facebook this, but I don't care nor need the Ipod Touch. If I won however I would pay it forward and keep trying to save children of the world everywhere.

Hi, I'm Nicole Voisard's sister and
she just informed me about Olga. After I finished sobbing, I was thrilled to be able to donate so easily. Thanks for what you are doing. There is another little girl on Reece's rainbow that has been heavy on my heart. Her name is Amanda. Please keep her in your prayers as well.

Rebecca said...

I just made a donation for Olga. I don't need a prize just want to help a little girl have a chance to live a better life. And after reading your birth story I can no longer see the keys to type through my tears. You are a great writer and an even greater mother. I could feel your love through your words. Thank you so much for sharing the story.

I am typing through tears. Ive had a rough day, but God put this blog in front of me & put things into perspective. My day was minimal to what Olga will be facing if this money is not raised.

I donated to Olga's cause...I am an adoptee & pray she too has a life of blessings made possible by an adoptive family full of love.

God Bless you for putting this story out there. The world needs more people like you!

Such a beautiful little girl but such a sad story. Praying for a Christmas miracle for Olga. I donated, but wish it could have been more.

Melissa M said...

Most of my RR funds are going to my Christmas Angel, but I just had to donate something to Olga too.

From what I understand, it depends on the institution she goes to as to whether or not she can be adopted from there. This mom just adopted from an institution and the things she saw there were heartbreaking.
http://covenantbuilders.blogspot.com/

Which is why Olga and Celine need families before they get transferred!

This (very long) comment is for donating.

Just my two cents here... but I think who ever adopts Olga, should change her name to Olivia!! Wouldn't that be sweet??! And it kinda sounds the same!

I've donated, but am in the UK so don't worry if you can't post it over here, it doesn't matter! I am a teacher to adults with learning disabilities - best job in the world, I get to teach the nicest students I know! As I am teaching literacy, numeracy and working on behaviour challenges it breaks my heart to see my students' progress and know that these children do not have the same chance to learn. They have SUCH potential, if only...

Wow. What an amazing post! Here in Australia, we cannot adopt these little ones, and if we could, I still couldn't as we are not Australian Citizens, so can't adopt anyway! I often feel so helpless and would love to bring a whole bunch of them home. My LO with DS is the youngest of 7 girls, and my older girls think at least one girl and 2 boys would do nicely! LOL
Anyway, we helped to sponsor a little boy last year who has since been adopted (just in time), and I have been wanting to do something for someone else for a while now. Our finances are such that we aren't doing anything for Christmas this year, but that doesn't mean we will starve. And it doesn't mean we will live out our lives in poverty and without love. And it doesn't mean that our lives are in danger. And it doesn't mean we are truly poor by world standards. Yes, we are doing it tough. But we are blessed that we are not doing it tougher.
I was going to put some money into Melanies fund this week, and see where the Lord led us next pay week. But He led me here first. So Melanie will get her donation, but I really feel that Olga's situation is pretty desperate at the moment, and I wanted to do whatever I could to help out.
I have become a follower, and also will post to my FB page.
And while I would LOVE an I-Pod, I wouldn't expect you to send it all this way, and besides the power adapter wouldn't work here anyway! So if my name is drawn, can you do me a favour and sell it and donate the proceeds to Olga? Thanks and God Bless
Carolyn (New Zealander in Australia)

I donated what I can at the moment. But there are more paydays in the future!
Posting in as many places as I can also to make sure that Olga does not go to an institution! I have faith that a miracle will happen and am sending prayer after prayer for her cause! You ladies are doing amazing things and I wish there were more people with hearts like yours in the world.

I have donated to Olga. It's seriously the very least I could do for such a precious child. I wish I could do that for every child in need this year, but I at least wanted to start with her. She is just beautiful. Prayers and blessings to her this holiday season and the upcoming year. May this be the year she finds her forever parents.

To help spread the word, I also tweeted about Olga....I can't wait to see her fund continue to grow!

What a wonderful thing you are doing! We adopted from Ukraine 5 years ago... a little 2 year old girl who had a cleft palate.
It was SO hard to see the children and conditions! We are battling still, the attachment disorder that was the result of her 2 years!

Thank you for this chance! Now off to go post on Facebook!

Why I do this.... said...

Hi Patti!!! I am Olga's Christmas Warrior!!! Obviously I am overjoyed about all this and am SO GRATEFUL for your compassion. We had a fundraising party for her DEC 4th and prayed before it that ultimately someone would see Olga (and Nicholas) and adopt them!!! GOD IS MIGHTY TO SAVE- look fwd to seeing who the lucky parents will be!! Peace and Joy, Molly Auble

Hi Patti~

I am praying for little Olga and this effort to give her a family. I am not in a place to give financially, but wanted to ask if you have tried to contact the Chapmans. They have a ministry that financially assists families in adopting. They have helped over 2,000 children be placed in families.

Here is the link to their website:
http://www.showhope.org/AdoptionAid/Miracles.aspx

Psalm 68:6 "God sets the solitary in families..."

He is faithful and I believe He has a perfect home already picked out for this little beauty.

I am blessed by your incredible love for this little one that you have yet to meet.

In His Love,

Beka
